Reported from the courtroom the day before the ruling ordering improvement in conditions: women soaked in blood because they are not given access to sanitary supplies, or even toilet paper; men unable to brush their teeth or shower for days (in some cases weeks); toilets open to the crowded space, with only a half wall for privacy.
Video footage smuggled out showing conditions in one holding cell: “Look at how we are, like dogs in here.” “We’re sleeping here in the bathroom.”
