Ozturk originally thought that she had been kidnapped. When she was eventually told that she had been arrested by law enforcement, she was not told why, and she was not allowed to speak to her family or a lawyer for over 24 hours. After being transported in shackles to several different detainment facilities, she eventually wound up at a detention facility in Louisiana.
